Shift

Devastated by a terrible loss, Chase is trying to balance the life he’s been left with, a family he’s still getting to know, and power he never thought he’d have. He doesn’t understand why the Goddess has named him the Protector and granted him two gifts: the Mark, a tattoo that now covers his back, and the ring. But between getting interrogated by the Circle and psychic attacks from Riley, the Mark is the least of his concern. There’s a demon inside Rayna that’s fighting to be released, and it’s not her inner witch. It’s something else–a monster threatening to tear her apart.

As Chase struggles to control his magic, his enemies are closing in. Everyone has staked a claim on his ring, and destroying it may be his only chance to stop Riley. But Chase must decide if stopping him is worth risking the lives of everyone he cares about, or if protecting the ring will be enough to save his world.

So I am completely blown away. I'm already having withdrawals, I need to know what happens next!! Ok now that I got that out of my system, I can be level headed. Well as level headed as I get anyways. So this book is beyond what I expected. I'm not usually a fan of the second book no matter whose writing it. I've found the second book to be filled with all the "bad" things. You know the break-ups, the let downs, the over all disappointment.  I can tell you  Matt has proven my theory wrong. I absolutely loved this book more than the first one.

So a little recap. Chase is a hunter who was EXILED from the only life he's ever known to being hunted by underworlders. He meets Rayna, a half-breed,  and Marcus, a rougue hunter, when they save his life from a bunch of vampires. The life he thought he knew has become a total lie. Joining Marcus and Rayna, Tessa, Chase's mom, they start down a path that ends in heartbreak. By Chase saving Rayna, Tessa dies at the hand of Riley. Riley is Chase's father who is delusional enough to want to bring forth Ithreal.

I wish I could say there was a break for Chase to breath, but that would be a lie. One of the things I love most about Chase is his determination. No matter how much is thrown at him he keeps going. He finally received his element, not one but two, then to be gifted by the Goddess to be also the Protector. It's a lot to take in for anyone. Factoring in the new feelings he's developing for Rayna, it's enough to drive anyone mad. Yet he doesn't falter under pressure, he takes it with stride. Helping Rayna with her shift, forgiving Marcus, standing by Willy, all while trying to figure out what it means to be the "Protector" and figuring out a way to stop Riley in the process.

Let me take a minute to say how awesome Willy is. I mean in Exiled he was a scared little half-breed, who I found adorable by the way, to be a bad ass half-breed in Shift. Willy goes through some changes as well, but the best one is he finally get's the confidence he was lacking. So kudos to Willy!

Having to face some tough dedecisions, traveling to other worlds, dealing with purbloods, and a certain vampire with alternatives, the gang goes on a search for Ithreal's dagger. The only advantage they had is taken away by one of the Dark Brother's. Riley is starting the war with the werewolves and the weretigers. Can Chase unite the two groups of shifter's before it's to late and Riley wins? Well your going to have to read the book to see what happens. I will say that Chase and Rayna make some progress. :)

There is so much action in this book that it will have you at the edge of your seat and will totally leave you wanting more. I cannot wait for Release to be released so I can continue the journey Chase and his group is on.

Book 2... SHIFT..... Is a winner! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!! Does Chase ever catch a break, no not yet. And Rayna's shift is absolutely amazing! I loved how Matt made you feel all of Chase's emotions. There were times when I was pissed off even!

I must say for a while I liked Vincent, thought he was cool. Well not anymore. He's an ass.
Willy..... Love that little guy!! And wow the big changes he goes through!
Tikki.... What's not to love?
Marcus, awww he's sensitive! He's a great guy!
Totally love Chief! A wise one that man!

I must say this was a winner book for me. Chase grows and gains so much in this book. He learns about himself and helps Rayna learn about herself too. There's even a few fun kisses in there. Brought out my happy clappy hands!!

Can't wait for Release!!! I'm sure it will be another winner!
