GENRE: STEAMY, CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE, NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG ADULT READERS.
Hale
Simmons dreams of climbing out of her impoverished life, going to
college, and getting herself a titanium crash helmet, so she can
eventually bust through the Plexiglas ceiling of her crappy life. But
for now, she's just a 18-year-old girl with a flimsy hope, barely
getting by with her alcoholic father, Jerry. But for Hale, 'crappy' suddenly takes a nosedive, when Jerry becomes the sole witness to a horrible accident. It is an event which means to affect everyone, especially Hale, who wasn't even involved.
While the depth of the accident has just begun to unfold, Otto Maree, a prominent business man and old family friend, stands to lose everything because of it. Otto is desperate for Hale's father to stay quiet about what occurred the night the two men meet for a drink. Out of mutual moments of desperation, the two fathers forge a deal. Jerry is desperate to gain financial stability for both himself and Hale, and Otto Maree is more than willing to pay to keep his secret just that.
But deals like this need to be made of the strongest vows and bound with the most faithful of loyalties. Otto proposes a marriage between Hale and his playboy-son, Oscar, in order to assure that the secret remains 'in the family'. The mystery surrounding the accident continues to grow and Hale struggles against her own mysterious feelings that begin to develop for Oscar, who turns out to less of a playboy, but just as fiercely loyal and dedicated as his father.
As the pressure around her continues to escalate, Hale realizes that she's got to decide if this arranged marriage is really just a big mistake or an amazing twist of fate that has been waiting around for this particular accident to happen.
Hey everyone we have a special treat for you today, Landon
agreed to let us Interview him! If you haven’t had the chance to read Hale
Maree yet, you need to get on that pronto! So you’re probably wondering why Christina is
MIA, would it be totally wrong for me to say that I told her the wrong date? I
know I’m horrible right, *sigh* well I didn’t do it totally on purpose. I got the days mixed up somehow and she made
plans with her hubby so, well, I didn’t want to ruin those plans so I decided
to do the interview with Landon solo! So without further ado or judgment, Lol,
here it is!
Hey Landon, I’m Danielle but
everyone calls me Dani! I want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to
get to know you a little better!
Happy to be here, Dani.
I’m Oscar’s best buddy and I’m ready to sell him out. (chuckles)
Fire away.
So Landon, how long have you
known Oscar?
Forever. Our mothers
were sorority sisters, so we’ve known each other from birth on.
That’s awesome, you guys are
practically brothers. I don’t feel so bad talking about him a lot then.
(laughs)
So Oscar let it slip that you
never really liked Sophia, care to explain?
He told, huh? It’s true.
Nothing against Soph, but she was into her friends more than she was
into Oscar. I thought she was a gold
digger at first, but then I realized that wasn’t it either. Oscar was looking for a serious girl, he
wanted to wife-up and Soph just wasn’t that girl. She wasn’t in that mode. I thought she liked his money and she liked
having a good looking guy on her arm, but she wasn’t thinking the same way
Oscar was. If you see your buddy headed
for the side of a mountain, you try to steer him out of the way, right?
Definitely, he’s lucky he has
someone like you around!
When you and Amy showed up early
to the beach house, I feel like it was on purpose, was there an agenda or
coincidence?
It was my birthday weekend and Amy was just itching to get
up there. I’ve been trying to get with
Ames for a while and since we just started going out and she was all in for a
weekend at the beach house? I wasn’t
going to wait around for her to change her mind. She didn’t have to twist my arm a whole lot
to get me to take the rest of the week off work.
What’s with Amy and Soph, if I
had either one of you guys I would want to spend as much time together as
possible, not in the clingy sense but like we are together sense. They didn’t
know what they were missing!
When you first met Hale, what
was your first thought?
I thought she was a pretty girl, young. She was shy and there was something sweet
about her. I knew Oscar was into her
right off. It was obvious, the way he
wouldn’t take his eyes off her.
Amy seemed like a piece of work
from the start, what was it that you saw in her?
Amy’s
hot. She’s a bombshell. Have you seen her? She had that zip to her too, like you’re not
going to tell her anything. She’ll tell
you. I like a girl that wants to go
toe-to-toe with me sometimes.
While you and Oscar where
outside did he tell you anything about what was going on?
He was going
on about Hale. While I expected to hear
it, it was strange too because Oscar’s not a guy that just falls in love on the
drop of a dime. He’s usually a
snail. It took him a while to finally
ask Sophia out, he just wasn’t sure of her and you can tell him to jump in and
try it out, but he’s not that guy. He
thinks things through. He’s picky. So, when I saw him with Hale, it was like she
put a spell on him or something. He was
all about her so quick, I knew there was something magnetic going on. Then he asked me to be his best man and I was
like, holy shit, this is serious.
When you and Hale got stuck at
the table together, if you could have said more would you have and what would
it be?
No,
I wouldn’t have said anything. What
could I say anyway? It’s not like they
need dating advice. If she didn’t want
to be with him, she wouldn’t and vice versa.
I don’t get into OC’s business, or anyone’s for that matter.
What did you think when Oscar
let you in on his plans on marrying Hale? Seemed sudden right?
I thought it
was fast, but I also know Oscar. Like I
said, he’s not a frying-pan-to-fire kind of guy. I knew that if he fell in love with this girl
that fast, then she must have knocked it out of the park, because he’s not an
easy sell.
Was Amy right when she said that
Oscar looked at Hale differently than Sophia or any other girl for that matter?
Oh yeah. Oscar’s not a guy that hangs on girls. He can usually take it or leave it. He’s the guy that doesn’t call right after a
date. He’s the dude that doesn’t care if
a girl turns him down or dumps him. He’s
never had a shortage of girls wanting to be with him, and he’s never felt like
he had to work to please any of them, so seeing him following Hale around and
doing everything he could think of for her, well, that was totally new. I knew he had it bad.
When did you realize he was in
love with Hale?
When he told me he wanted me to be his best man. You don’t get how slow Oscar is in making
decisions. When he bought his truck, he
researched trucks for months before he decided on one. It’s not like, this is the kind of truck I like, so I’ll get one. With OC, he’s got to know every aspect of what
he’s getting into before he commits, so I knew that he had to be in love with
Hale to propose so fast. Not to mention
how protective he was of her. He never
cared that much about any of his girlfriends before. If they came or went, he was fine with
it. But not Hale. It was different all the way around with her.
Talk about a sucky birthday
getaway, stuck in the bathroom, shopping trip with the girls, bet you wished
you stayed home instead huh?
I wish the whole thing had never happened. Knowing what I know now, I would’ve never
eaten the fish. No, you’re right. I would’ve never even gone. You’re a bright girl, you know that?
(Blushes & laughs) Thanks!
You’re not so bad yourself Landon.
I have to know, looking for
Pepto at the mall, was a cover up to look for something with Oscar right, or
did you really need it? It was a cover up. We
had to get away and get the ring. OC had
called the jeweler and made arrangements for the ring to be delivered
there. When you’re a Maree, you can make
stuff like that happen.
I knew it! Not that I wasn’t seriously worried
about your umm issues, but I knew something was up.
So swimming while your 10 bananas,
not the brightest idea, what happens next less so, did you ever pick up on any
signs that Amy was crazy like that? (laughs) I want to
make it clear that I didn’t exactly EXPECT to go swimming. That’s how 10 bananas I was. I was actually
hoping that Amy would get naked and Oscar and Hale would leave us to get down
to it in the sand. But what ended up
happening? That was beyond 10 bananas.
Never saw that coming.
What was going through your head
when you walked into the house and saw Hale’s face? Holy shit and
then, HOLY SHIT. I couldn’t believe it,
but going at Hale at that point was like going after my sister-in-law. That doesn’t happen and it isn’t going to
happen. I was looking for a good time
and that wasn’t a good time at all.
After getting crazy on the
train, getting your things together, let us inside your head, you had to be
confused, pissed off, and even more curious on why your best friend and Hale
are moving fast. What were you thinking? I was beyond pissed. I’d had it.
I’d turned myself inside out in the bathroom all day and then, when I
thought I was going to get buzzed and get a little out on the beach, well, you
know what happened. Oscar and Hale
weren’t even on my radar to be honest. I
was put out that it was my birthday weekend and now I didn’t have anyone to put
out. I know, shallow, but hey, it was my
birthday.
Could totally understand that,
birthday sex is supposed to be banging and being on the beach would have been
perfect. I have to admit your way better off without Amy you deserve someone
better!
What did you think about the
wedding? I
thought I was going to live it up to maybe 20 bananas and get with that little
bridesmaid friend of Hale’s. Sher. Pretty girl.
So what are you doing now
Landon, are you single? *smirks* Are you asking? * smirks back *
You can get my number from Oscar.
(fans
self) I’m pretty sure it just got hot in here, I’ll do that. (winks)
Tell me, will we hear from you
again, maybe your own story? Don’t know. I can’t
imagine what anybody would want to know about me. Oscar’s the love boat, you know? Look at the guy. We’ll see, I guess.
Give yourself some credit
Landon. Oscar may be the love boat, but there’s something underneath the
surface with you… I would love to see beneath the sexy exterior.
Thanks again Landon for bearing
with me and answering some questions! I had a great time and the description Hale
gives of you isn’t enough, you’re totally hot!
I wouldn’t mind spending some more time with you! *wink wink* Oh wow I
can’t believe I just said that out loud, *blushing*, umm so yeah thanks again! Thanks for
having me, Dani, I had a good time. You
ask great questions. Oh, and like I
said, Oscar’s got my number. Make sure
you get it from him, alright? Maybe we
could go up to Oscar’s beach house sometime.
You like the water? You ever get
10 bananas? I could totally show you
how... * smiles*
Yup definitely got hotter in
here and I will be getting that number. Beach house, water, 10 bananas, and umm
a makeup birthday weekend (hint hint) with you Landon… Count me in! *smiles*
Make sure you guys pick up Hale Maree if you haven’t already!
I need to go grab a cold shower and get Oscar to give me Landon’s number! I’m
really glad I didn’t tell Christina about the interview now! *Laughs* Be sure
to check out Misty’s other books as well! The Cornerstone series is phenomenal!
Here's our review again and go all the way through to the end because there's some awesome giveaways! Misty seriously rocks!
So I absolutely fell in love with Misty Provencher when I
read her Cornerstone Series. She is totally awesome was so excited when she
started venturing out of the limitations of YA. Hale Maree is seriously awesome. I could not wait to read it and I read it so
fast and adored it.
So Hale, awesome name right? I swear Misty is so creative
when it comes to naming her characters. Anyways, Hale lives with her alcoholic father,
just graduated…high school, has an awesome best friend named Sher, not a
perfect life but she’s ok. That is until her dad comes home drunk with a
friend. Usually she just escapes to her room, but this time she over hears the
conversation between her dad and his friend. A conversation that has her completely
freaked out. I mean if your dad just agreed to have you married to his friend’s
son, you would be creeped out too right? Who does that these days, I mean come
on. Totally against the idea, she decides she’s going to refuse it as much as
she can. She meet’s the guy when they drive to his house to pick him up to pass
out flyers, and the guy, Oscar, is HOTT and moves like smoke. Is she going to
be able to resist him?
Oscar is helping his dad’s friend and the friend’s daughter
pass out flyers for the new landscaping company they established. He has no
clue what is going on just yet. So he talks to Hale tells her she’s pretty and
that he has a girlfriend. He calls Hale later that night to invite her for some
coffee, when Hale talks about his loyalty to his girlfriend his reply is
genious, “I am,” he sighs,”but if you are going to be my wife, I guess that
trumps and loyalty I have to a girlfriend, now doesn’t it?” I seriously love
Oscar, he’s smart, sexy, and perfect in his imperfectness. That gets her to
meet him, and when she arrives home, Oscar being a gentleman walks her to the
door.
Hale opens the door to find a drunk father and her stuff
packed. Yelling occurs and a broken bottle of whiskey later, Hale is getting
back in the truck with Oscar. Oscar grabs some clothes from his house and they
head to his beach house. Is it possible
to turn a crappy situation around? Can Hale give Oscar a chance and getting to
know her and letting him in? Can love be formed in a matter of a week? Well you
are going to have to read to see if Oscar and Hale make their arranged
marriage mean more than that.
-Dani
I love Misty Provencher 's Keystone series and was PUMPED to
Read Hale Maree after she described it on twitter. My super awesome friend and
blogger partner Dani bought it for me. I was glad she did!
Hale and her dad are so poor. They live in the poor part of town and scrape by. One night Hale is cooking dinner when her dad comes home drunk with a friend. She feeds them and leaves. She is actually scared how they are talking because her dad says...... that ........ He agrees to marry her off to this guys son Oscar. It's like they have set it all up! Hale is MORTIFIED! She does not want this to happen! Her friend Sher wants to help her get away, but Hale decides to stick with it.
Helping her dad put out flyers for the lawn business Hale gets to meet Oscar. She is not sure she likes him. But he is super cute. Oscar invites her out for coffee to try to get to know her. This leads to Hale freaking out, and Oscar is so patient. When she gets home what awaits her? Her dad has packed her things and Sends her to live with Oscar. She FREAKS!
What happens when Hale spends a WEEK with Oscar? What is the Real thing that has this marriage by force set up! And Can Two People Fall in love in one week despite ALL these odds that are against them?
READ!! And I will tell you, you will FALL in LOVE with OSCAR. WOW what a cutie! So patient, kind and wonderfully loving. Do they sell guys like him at the store? Really? Great Job Misty!
-Christina
If you guys haven't seen the awesome cover to Misty's next amazing series here's your chance! It's going to be EPIC seriously!
Of course with the cover reveal we have to give you a little blurb right?! So here you go!
My will to survive is the first thing to
drown.
I know, because I hold it under myself.
After facing severe
tragedy in life, Madeline assumes her death will be easy.
But the angels do
not come to take her to Heaven.
Instead, what
retrieves her is something she never expected: a gargoyle.
Delivered to Truce,
the King of the Gargoyles, Madeline now has choices she never wanted. She has the ability to take over the entire
Gargoyle Kingdom, if she is willing to kill the king. However, looking to prevent takeover, Truce
transforms Madeline, thereby granting her the ability to achieve the thing she
wants most—death—if she can just find the human recipient for the Gargoyle Gift
that she now has to give. It should be
easy.
But lives, whether
they are lived or not, are seldom simple, and Madeline’s past still stands in
her way. Now, only a voyeur in the life of The Boy with the Golden Rod Voice,
Madeline’s must reconcile her own life and death, if she ever hopes to have
free reign of her soul.
Since Misty is so amazing she's hosting a few giveaways, yup she's that awesome! So here you go!
