Blood Rule Blog Stop

 Buy the Book
*screams* It's our stop on the tour! It's our stop on the tour! hahaha Can you tell we love Heather Hildenbrand? Because we totally do, but you don't really care about our love right? You want what we thought about Blood Rule, Book 4 in the Dirty Blood Series, and to see if there's a giveaway right? Well all right, here you go!

Forty-six.
That’s how many hybrids survived the Hunter attack in the woods after I revived them with an injection of my blood. That’s how many followed me home to Frederick Falls. And that’s how many were now mentally linked to me through a blood bond.

Two days. Three valium. Fourteen hours of sleep.
That’s what it took to realize I wasn’t losing my mind as a result of the noise in my own head.

Sixteen.
That’s how many days have passed since I almost killed Alex. That’s how many days I’ve sat by his bedside, waiting for him to wake up. To ease the guilt, to understand his betrayal, to remember the exact shade of brown in his eyes.

Zero.

That’s my chances of skating by with Gordon Steppe and the Hunter Council. They want me for questioning. I’m afraid what’ll happen if I give them answers.

AHHHHHHHH!!! Seriously that’s how I’m feeling right now! Heather Hildenbrand sure does know how you keep you hanging! It’s been a little while and a good many books in between reading the first 3 books in the Dirty Blood Series, but I was able to get right into the story as if I just finished the third book and continued on.

SOOOOO much stuff is going on. I feel bad for Tara, its’ like she can never catch a break. Then with the guilt of Alex, her relationship with Wes, and not to mention the pack… I’m surprised the girl hasn’t had a break down yet. Hell I know I would! I don’t like reading a lot or reviews because of the potential spoilers, and it’s really hard not to give too much away on Blood Rule, because it’s that damn good. So I’m going to be brief and hopefully not give anything away!

So if you’ve read the entire series, you know that Tara is a hybrid, hunter & werewolf, and you also know that at the end of the third book, her blood saved a few new hybrids. Thrusting her into the role of an Alpha. Poor Wes. First he had to deal with the bond with George and know several dozen more wolfs. Then there’s Alex. The hunter that captured Tara’s attention at school. He’s in a coma because of Tara and it’s putting a little strain on her relationship with Wes. But true love survives right? Tara made her choice, but Wes doesn’t realize it yet. What it all boils down to is sides being drawn. Peace between hunters and wolfs, but nothing is easy and Tara is the center of all the trouble.

“Havoc, it’s what I do.”

Wes. The guy is totally in love with Tara. You can see it with the way he is with her. In his jealousy, the way he stands by her, and in the way he will always find her. Some big things are going down with CHAS and Wes is having more drama to deal with other than worry about who’s inside his girl’s head when they try to make-out. Not only are hunters looking for him now, but human authorities are on his case too. Why? Well you’re going to have to read that!

Oh! Cambria!!! How can I forget her? She’s not in this book much but there’s a part where Cam and Tara are talking and I have to share it because… its just pure genius. Everyone should have a friend like Cambria and Tara.
“Deal. Thelma and Louise. All the way.”-Tara
“Sometimes, Tara Godfrey, you are way too willing to die.”-Cambria

Seriously love their friendship. They would do anything for each other, even if it means going up against Edie. It’s hard to find friends like that, so if you have them or one, hold on to them as tight as you can!
George. The ex-boyfriend/bonded/friend is amazing! Totally love the relationship that Tara has with him now. It’s back on even territory and there might be a girl for him in this book. That’s right, maybe George is finally moving on from Tara, but you’ll have to find out who she is by reading this FANTASTIC book!

You’ll see appearances for Logan and Victoria in this book as well as a few other’s. Heather Hildenbrand is truly amazing and will keep you rooted to your spot until you finished the book. Then you’ll be tweeting/facebooking/emailing her begging for the next book in the series, because the end... though brilliant will have you screaming for the next book. It’s an addiction and you’ll need to know what happens to Wes, Tara, and the rest of the gang. So stop reading this, enter the giveaway, and then head over to amazon or b&n to pick up your copy of Blood Rule. Fall in love with Wes all over again and see what happens when everything changes for Tara Godfrey.

When I first started Heather Hildenbrand’s books it was with the Dirty Blood Series. I was instantly pulled in to her series.  Blood Rule was a long time waiting for me because I was so excited to see what happens next.  You see that is how Heather leaves you, wanting more and going “Wait wait.... you can’t stop here!”  Well she does. AND this book is NO Exception..... is the next book out yet?  Yes, there will be another book I hear.  In Blood Rule, Heather Hildenbrand takes to to after Alex betrayed them in
the last book.  Yes..... Tara and Wes are strongly together, and oh so cute.  Yes I use the word cute because they are.  I love Wes.  He is one of my favorite characters in this series.  NO not because he is a guy.  I love how he is silent, thinks, and then moves on to his plan.  I love how he loves Tara and is strongly protective of her.  So Tara is leader of a pack of hybrids and yes she and George still know what each other is thinking.  I love George too and he grows so much in this story and Tara right along with him.  He is the perfect second and best friend for Tara in my opinion.  You really need to read too see how they grow together.  And in this book there is a lot of growth, for Tara, for Wes, for George and all of them together.  EVEN TARA’s MOM! SHOCKER! yes..... you will see her grow too.  I was blown away at how much each of the characters learned from the last books.

Tara is challenged in this book with the pack, and one of the wolf hybrids wants to challenge her leadership.  Tara has to step outside her comfort zone and address this like and alpha.  And I can feel how Wes and George don’t want this to happen but have to let it.   Tara does visit Alex who is still in a coma.  She had to do something to save him and that comes into play in the story.  What is it??? You must read lol.  There is no easy road for Wes and Tara in this book.  Although we do get more of them together and not thrown apart which I loved.  The sad part is Vera’s health is declining.  I LOVE Vera and I cried a bit as she was trying to help Tara and Wes know what to do.  Her book is given to them to read to figure things out a long the way.  Is that easy?  NO.  When Steppe decides that Tara is at fault for Alex’s condition, they all must run into hiding...... and the unexpected happens...... Tara’s pack, save for 2 and George are taken and she can’t put a read on them.  Tara, Wes, George and 2 others go on the run.  The rest of the wolves, Jack, Fee and the rest all split up as well.

Tara and Wes must decide who will they lead? What will happen?  I will say.... I LOVE GRAMMA she ROCKS! When unexpected friends come to help what will Tara decide to do?  And if you love Aster in the last book, oh ya he is here again with MORE surprises.  I would live to pick his brain!  He is part of the plan to help find Tara’s pack of hybrids.  And who is there ALL the way in support of her? Yes WES! The ending has me in shock, pulling out my hair and asking Heather Hildenbrand....... “CAN I PLEASE HAVE THE NEXT BOOK NOW?”  I am biting my nails till then!

We also have the opportunity to share the Playlist Heather created for Dirty Blood! So excited and these songs are AMAZING!

I’m so excited to share my playlist for Dirty Blood because the list is so eclectic! There’s everything from GooGoo Dolls to Beatles to movie soundtracks. Most of this music made its way onto the list by accident. In other words, I didn’t search out music for the book but instead, stumbled across a song that spoke to me. Once that happened, I just had to add it and play it on repeat from then on.

I don’t listen to music often during the writing process, because that’s sort of like watching a movie and talking on the phone at the same time. You can’t concentrate on both and make sense of either. But I do for plotting and developing characters and planning scenes. Then, again for editing, I play the songs that inspire me. Here’s a list of those songs for Dirty Blood:

Iris, Goo Goo Dolls (City of Angels soundtrack)
“Yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive… I don’t want the world to see me ‘cuz I don’t think that they’d understand. When everything’s made to be broken. I just want you to know who I am.”

This reminds me of Wes. (And Tara, but not until she finds out all the things that have been kept from her.) For Wes, being a Dirty Blood is a struggle. Part of him feels ashamed because he identifies with being a werewolf, but most of his kind look down on him. It makes him angry and more sensitive to anyone that judges without getting to know someone first. It’s all about identity for him. And he hasn’t quite figured out who this makes him.

Angel, Sarah McLachlan
“You spend all your time waiting for that second chance. For the break that would make it okay. There’s always some reason you feel not good enough. And it’s hard at the end of the day. I need some distraction. Oh, beautiful release. Memories seep from my veins. Let me be empty and weightless and maybe, I’ll find some peace tonight.”

Lots of peeps in Dirty Blood feel the need for a second chance. Tara. Wes. Tara’s mother. George. Cord. You just don’t know WHY yet in book 1. But you will…

Girl, Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe soundtrack)
“Is there anybody gonna listen to my story? All about the girl who came to stay. She’s the kind of girl you want so much it makes you sorry. Still, you don’t regret a single day. A girl… A girl…”

This is definitely straight from Wes’ mind into our hearts. This song makes ME want to be the girl he’s talking about! And this scene makes me think of the first time Wes meets Tara. In the alley behind the pool hall. I think, even then, he was already hooked.

Hey Jude, Joe Anderson (originally Beatles, remade for Across the Universe soundtrack)
“Hey Jude, don’t make it bad. Take a sad song and make it better. Remember to let her into your heart. And you can start to make it better. Hey Jude, don’t be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, you began to make it better. Anytime you feel the pain, Hey Jude refrain. Don’t carry the world upon your shoulders. It’s the fool who plays it cool, by making his world a little colder.”

THIS WAS MY FAVORITE!! This is Wes’ song, to a “T.” I played this one on repeat a lot as I wrote or plotted Wes’ character and the dynamic between him and Tara. This sums up his fear of the relationship and overcoming what people will think or the dangers he knows they’ll face if they get together.

LOTS of Sea Wolf ß Love this band! Songs like: You’re a Wolf. Middle Distance Runner. Leaves in the River (the entire album). The Cold, The Dark & The Silence. Wicked Blood. Dew in the Grass. Orion & Dog. Spirit Horse. The Violet Hour ß from the Twilight soundtrack.

Their lyrics are so good. And their sound is relaxing and chill but also thought-provoking. It’s the perfect background music for the soundtrack of my life. This band had made it into EVERY playlist of every book I’ve written so far!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this list. I’d love to hear your thoughts—what songs do YOU think fit Dirty Blood or its characters?

Well since you asked... We created our very own playlist! So have a listen and be sure to leave us  feedback on what you think!

She now lives in coastal VA, a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean, with her two adorable children. She works from home, part time, as a property manager and when she's not furiously pounding at the keyboard, or staring off into space whilst plotting a new story, she's lying on the beach, soaking in those delicious, pre-cancerous rays.

Heather loves Mexican food, hates socks with sandals, and if her house was on fire, the one thing she'd grab is her DVR player.

Heather is a co-founder of Accendo Press, a publishing group she operates with fellow authors: Angeline Kace and Jennifer Sommersby.
